Beth Turner — Publisher and Editor. In 1984, Beth Turner first launched Black Masks as a newsletter, and later expanded it to the current magazine format.

Black Masks (ISSN 0887–7580) is a publication on Black entertainment, particularly Black theatre and other Black performing, literary and visual arts. The articles in each issue are largely based on original interviews and research. Every issue also contains an arts hotline that provides current Black entertainment news about events across the country. Black Masks is published quarterly.

Submissions

Black Masks accepts articles and papers on performing, literary or visual arts and artists of African descent throughout the United States and abroad. Query email, text or telephone call suggested prior to submission. Manuscript length may vary from 500–1,500 words depending on topic. Submit inquiries and manuscripts via email to blackmasksmagazine@yahoo.com.
